Quick answers
Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds
The story
The Bakumatsu period, a gap between the past splendour of the Shogunate era and the modern glamor of the Meiji period, is one of the most violent and intriguing places to start a romance. Chizuru Yukimura has set off for Kyoto to find her missing father, but accidentally gets herself wrapped up in the intrigues of the Shinsengumi, a group of warriors who defends the fading powers of the shogunate. The men in Shinsengumi are not merely fighting Emperor Meiji's forces and the strange demons, they are also hiding a terrible secret. They are hiding something among them.

Publisher's content notice
This is an interactive story game (i.e., visual novel) in which players assume the role of a girl searching for her missing father in 19th century Japan. Players progress through the story interacting with samurai characters and watching events as they unfold. Some events lead to instances of violence: characters attacking/killing with swords, spears, and pistols; these still-frame scenes are sometimes accompanied by cries of pain and flesh-impact sounds. Violence is also described in text (e.g., “...I felt the metal of its blade burn into the flesh of my arm” and “Dark, crimson blood was dripping from his sword, and next to his feet was a right arm holding a sword”). Characters are sometimes depicted with blood stains on their bodies and/or clothing. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” appear in the dialogue.
